FAQ MATERNITY

Maternity Photoshoot

As a mother to be, this is one of the most special times of your life.  A maternity photoshoot will not only capture the look of your beautiful baby belly but also the emotional journey that you have endured this far carrying life.  I will pose you in ways where you will see the love resonate from you and the baby.   You will look back at these precious moments to bring you back to how much you love your baby before you even met.

As an expecting mother, you want to capture this monumental time not only for the you but for the father, partner and/or children.  After capturing the beautiful shots of the mother, we can invite the father/partner to take some shots together.  Then if there are any children, they can come and be part of some family photos.  Pets can also be included assuming the location allows animals.

How long will the maternity session take? The session will last 45 minutes.

Deciding on what to wear will depend on the style of photos, your personality, and what you feel comfortable in.  You can wear something to expose the baby bump or wear something form fitting to show off the shape of your belly.  Dresses are classic.  You can opt for a flowy elegant one that can fly in the wind.  An empire waist or belt under your bust enhances your smallest point and shows off the size of your curves, especially your baby bump.  You can also opt for wearing a bandeau with a long skirt or sarong.  If you do wear something sheer, please wear appropriate undergarments. It is best to choose clothing in solid colors.  Some floral patterns on a dress do work as well.  I will work with you to coordinate colors and accessories.  I do have a few gowns available to use as well as a few floral crowns.

Should I get our hair/make-up done?  Some mothers decide to do their own make-up and hair to look natural and to mimic their everyday look while some others decide to glam themselves up. The look truly depends on the style you want to portray.  Just think of how you want to see yourself many years down the road and whether you want to date your style or keep it classic.

  • Make sure your hair color is fresh and styled as you normally would wear it but do not dye your hair right before the shoot.  The fresh colored hair can appear too vibrant in the light.
  • Schedule a haircut or trim at least one week prior to the shoot to allow the style to set in.
  • You may want to consider adding makeup services done by a professional makeup artist to bring out your best features in a natural way.
  • Trim your nose hair and pluck your eyebrows if that is part of your routine.
  • If you wax, do so at least one week prior to avoid any redness or swelling.
  • Some poses will have your hands in the photo. Make sure you have manicured nails and have your ring cleaned.
  • Whiten your teeth if you feel the need to.  You may have to start two weeks prior depending on the shade you desire.
  • Do not over tan for the photo shoot.  A little color is okay but do not look like you came from a beach vacation.
  • Keep jewelry to a minimum.  The pieces should not be bold as to take away from your face and body.
  • Wear the appropriate colored undergarments such as a nude color bra to prevent any of the silhouette showing through a light-colored gown.
  • Have all your clothing pressed and clothing cleaned.
  • You may want to change into your outfit once you arrive to avoid wrinkles from the seat belt.
  • Your shoes may end up in the photo based on certain poses so make sure they are in good condition and polished.

The maternity shoot is all about you so bring props that are meaningful to you.  That way you can incorporate into the images more of who you are and who your baby will be.  Some items you can bring are baby booties, stuffed animals that will be in the nursery, a toy from yoru childhood, sonogram photos, an item with the baby’s name or initials on it, an heirloom, and anything that has special meaning to you.
